We are delighted to announce the opening of the group exhibition Capitain Petzel at Galerie Mezzanin, in Geneva, Switzerland. This collaboration takes place within the framework of Vernissages Communs, an initiative by The Quartier des Bains association aiming to encourage the exchange between local and international galleries. The show features works by a curated selection of artists from Capitain Petzel´s program, as well as by Christopher Williams, an artist represented by both galleries involved.
The presentation includes works by Andrea Bowers (*1965), Troy Brauntuch (*1954), Natalie Czech (*1976), Robert Longo (*1953), Sarah Morris (*1967), Seth Price (*1973), Amy Sillman (*1955), Monika Sosnowska (*1972), Kelley Walker (*1969) and Christopher Williams (*1956), spanning the period from 2012 up to 2018.
Founded in 2008 by Friedrich Petzel and Gisela Capitain as a joint gallery, Capitain Petzel is housed in a 1’300 square meter glass-encased modernist building preserved from the Socialist Era, located in one of the city’s historical landmarks on Karl-Marx-Allee in Berlin-Mitte. Built in 1964 by architects Kaiser and Franek to display fine and applied arts from the countries of the Eastern Block, the former “Kunst im Heim” gallery of the GDR is a classic example of East German Modernism.
Since 2008, more than 40 artists–from both Petzel, New York, Gisela Capitain, Cologne and Capitain Petzel´s autonomous program– have realised ambitious solo exhibitions developed on-site amongst others Yael Bartana, Karla Black, Andrea Bowers, Natalie Czech, Wade Guyton, Charline von Heyl, Maria Lassnig, Robert Longo, Sarah Morris, Tobias Pils, Amy Sillman, Monika Sosnowska, Seth Price, and Christopher Williams.
